Why Insulate?

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much insulation should I have in my home?

A. If you have an existing home or are planning to build a new home, you should have enough insulation to help protect you from rising energy prices in the future, even if it is above code. For this area you should have the following insulation levels: R-38 in the attic and R-13 in the sidewalls.

Q. Can I add insulation to the existing insulation in my attic?

A. Yes. If you’re adding insulation yourself, use unfaced insulation. Or Garland Insulating Ltd. can blow in a uniform layer and check the other areas of your home.

Q. What type of insulation is the best?

A. All insulations have their particular features. What’s important is the R-value of the insulation. Always buy insulation by R-value.

Q. How do I know I’ll get the insulation level I want?

A. Garland Insulating Ltd. will give you an insulation certificate stating exactly what insulation and how much was installed in your home. Our well-trained employees are your assurance also.

Q. How do I qualify for a Federal Tax Credit?

A. Whether yours is a new home or an existing one, Garland Insulating Ltd. is familiar with how you can qualify for your tax credit. Just give us a call. Or for more information, click here.

Q. How do I build an Energy Star home?

A. Garland Insulating Ltd. is a qualified Energy Star insulation company. We’ll work with you to review your plans and tell you exactly what you must do to qualify.

Q. If I’m building a new home, can you tell me how much it will cost me each year to heat and cool my home?

A. Yes. That’s part of our Environments For Living program. For more information, click here.

Q. Does extra insulation help reduce air conditioning bills?

A. Yes. Just as it helps keep cold from entering in the winter, insulation helps keep hot air from entering in the summer.
